The Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star, affectionately known as the “T-Bird,” was one of the most important jet trainers of the early Cold War. Developed from the pioneering P-80/F-80 Shooting Star fighter, the two-seat T-33 gave new pilots the experience they needed to transition from propeller-driven aircraft into the rapidly developing world of high-speed jet aviation.
 

First flown in 1948, the T-33 trained generations of military pilots in the United States and around the world. It served with the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, and numerous allied nations, performing training, utility, reconnaissance, and even light combat roles during its exceptionally long career. More than just a trainer, the Shooting Star helped introduce thousands of aviators to the Jet Age and became one of the most recognizable training aircraft of the Cold War.
